Carnegie Learning is a leading publisher of innovative, research-based mathematics curricula for middle school and high school students, and their software is used by more than 500,000 students across the United States.
The Mathia Team contracted me to design a customizable “skin” they could use with their existing system, in order to increase student engagement and "gamify" the system, without refactoring their legacy codebase. The user tests for our space-themed prototype was so well received with K-6 students and teachers that Carnegie decided to contract me for middle school, high school and adult learning product designs, as well as a data-heavy teacher portal that would provide better insight into student engagement and milestones.
The K-6 product included a number of animations to surprise and delight, the middle school portal allowed students to build their own profile & select their guide from a number of illustrated options, and Savant was created for higher education and adult learners who wanted to outsmart their peers, like a fox. We also redesigned all the reporting for teachers and brought in color queues to indicate where students were struggling.

Carnegie Learning in-house teams developed the designs and they were well received by students and teachers alike. While the company has since rebranded & made a few updates, these core designs are still seen daily by students in over 1300 US school districts!
